In ever increasing numbers, North Americans are discovering the health enhancing benefits of Massage Therapy. This branch of natural health care utilizes a variety of therapeutic approaches involving the hands-on manipulation of muscles and other soft tissues for improved health and well-being. It is believed that the boom in interest has been fueled by the still growing health and fitness movement in this country and by a new appreciation for what other cultures have known for years. This healing art has a rich history which spans 3000 years and the entire globe, modern therapies synthesize traditional techniques with sophisticated scientific knowledge to develop therapeutic models which are more effective than ever before.

Anyone will tell you that a good massage will make you feel great, but there really can be much more to it than that! Employing a variety of techniques, a skilled therapist stretches and loosens muscle and connective tissues which, aside from relieving common aches and pains, greatly improves blood flow to the heart and movement of lymph fluid throughout the body. The manipulation beneath a therapist’s hands speed the removal of metabolic waste products resulting from inactivity, allowing more oxygen and nutrients to reach cells and tissues.

The most dramatic effects, however, may be attributed to the release of endorphins (the body’s natural pain killers) into the brain and nervous system. Reduced muscular tension and increased mobility are only the beginning. Dozens of other healthful responses result; including reduced blood pressure, faster healing and a strengthening of the immune system. The many mental and emotional benefits are well documented, as recipients commonly enjoy a reduction of anxiety and stress.

If you have never had any "bodywork" before, perhaps you are not sure what to expect from your first visit. The therapists work together with your other health care providers, therefore a brief medical history form must be completed prior to treatment. Any individual is welcome to have a massage, and some insurance companies will reimburse your visit. Some insurance companies require a doctor's note (from a medical doctor) to be attained before they will reimburse you.

After undressing in private (you may leave on underwear or wear jogging shorts; whatever you find most comfortable), you will lay on a specially designed table and cover yourself with the sheet. You will remain covered throughout, except for the area receiving the treatment. Typically, the hands, arms, face, scalp, neck, shoulders, legs, hips, back and feet are all massaged during a full-body massage.
